RULES & GUIDELINES

ADULT MEN'S BASKETBALL LEAGUE  21 & UP SPRING 2007

  1. All participants must have a signed waiver on file.  Completed waivers must be submitted to the league director PRIOR TO YOUR FIRST GAME.  If a player participates without a waiver, he will be considered an illegal player and the team forfeits the game. DOWNLOAD WAIVER

  2. All fees must be paid before the start of the season.  Failure to do so will result in withdrawal from the league.  All fees are non-refundable.

  3. Non-members may not enter the facility during league, open, or adult basketball gym times reserved for members and are not permitted to use any other facilities. Players and Spectators must stay in the Hubbard Gymnasium at all times during league play. No one is allowed outside the gym under any circumstances.

  4. All players must wear their league given t-shirts for each game.  Any player(s) not playing with their league given shirt will result in a two shot technical foul to be shot by the opposing team upon the offending player’s entrance into the game. (This technical foul does not effect the offending teams foul count)

  5.  Two twenty minute running halves will be played with the clock stopping only for time outs, injuries , the final 2 minutes of the first half and the final 2 minutes of  the second half—unless one team is up by 20 points or more.  In this case, the clock will not stop.  The clock WILL NOT stop after each basket.  Two 2-minute overtime periods are available in the event of a tie with the clock stopping on every whistle at the 1-minute mark.  In the event of a tie after the two overtime periods five members from each team will shoot one foul shot each, cycling through the same five until a winner is determined.  The clock will NOT stop for technical foul shots taken during the course of the game.

  6. All games will be preceded by a 5-minute warm-up.  At this time, team captains are responsible for double-checking names and shirt numbers in the score book.  After the third week of play, all scorebooks will be pre-written by the Sports Director based on each team’s roster.  No cross outs or changes may be made to the scorebooks after that time. This includes shirt numbers.

  7. Teams must have at least 4 players to play the game.  Any team with less than four players at the start of the game will be given a five-minute grace period before a forfeit is called.

  8. ROSTERS: All rosters may hold up to 10 people.  Additions to the 10 person team rosters may be made up to and including the third week of play.  No changes may be made after that date.  If any team is found to have a player participating that is not on the team roster, that game will be forfeited.  If this occurs twice, the offending team will be expelled from the leagueAll players must be at least 30 years of age by September 25, 2007 for the 30 and up league; all players must be at least 21 years of age by January 6, 2008 for the 21 and up league.  Any player that has been removed from a roster for any reason may not be reinstated.  Roster players must play in at least 3 games to be eligible for playoffs.

  9. Players are eliminated from the game on their fifth personal foul.  If their team does not have any substitutes available on their bench, the player may re-enter the game, but will give up a two-shot technical foul to the opposing team.  A technical foul will also be awarded to the opposing team on each subsequent foul committed by that player for the remainder of the game.

  10. Any player receiving two (2) technical fouls during one game will be ejected from that game and result in that player’s suspension from the next game.  Players who are ejected from the game must vacate the YMCA premises immediately.   Fighting will result in expulsion from the league.

  11. This is a YMCA league; therefore, YMCA conduct is expected.  The use of foul language will not be tolerated.  Abusive language directed towards anyone may result in technical fouls, suspension or expulsion from the league.

  12.  Teams will shoot one and one on the opposing team’s seventh team foul and two on the opposing team’s tenth team foul.

  13. The 3-point shot is in effect and each team will have ten seconds to cross half court.

  14. Each team will be allowed two 1-minute timeouts per half.  Timeouts from the second half will be allowed to roll over to overtime periods.  Each team will be allowed one timeout per overtime.  Any team calling a timeout when they have none available will be issued a technical foul.

  15. Substitutions may only be made during a timeout or any dead ball.  Substitutes must inform the scorer’s table before entering the game.

  16. A jump ball will determine possession at the start of the game and overtime.  The possession arrow will be used at all other times.

  17. On free throws, players may enter the lane upon the shooters release of the ball.  The shooter may not enter the lane until the ball has made contact with the rim.  Any free throw that does not make contact with the rim is considered a violation.  It will be whistled dead and given to the opposing team.

  18. The officials are in control of the games on the floor and will adhere to these rules strictly.  Any protests/ complaints should be issued to the official at the time of the infraction by the team captain only.   Any protest made after the game or an unreasonable lapse of time will not be considered.  Any concerns that the officials may have regarding any team will be brought to the Sports Director’s attention and handled promptly.

  19. Only team captains may protest a rule call.  Judgment calls made by the referees are final

  20. The YMCA asks that any team unable to play a game notify the opposing team captain and the Sports Director no less than twenty-four hours prior to game time.  Any team failing to do this will forfeit the game and be held responsible for the official’s fees.  These fees must be paid prior to the forfeiting team playing in another league game.

  21. The ONLY changes made to the schedule will be by the sports director and ONLY when it is absolutely necessary.

  22. This league is being run after normal YMCA hours on Sundays; therefore, no one is permitted in any other part of the building at any time including the shower facilities.  All teams are asked to enter and exit the building through the side entrance that leads directly to the gymnasium.  You can access this doorway through the YMCA vehicle parking lot.

  23.  The YMCA strongly recommends that each player wear a mouthpiece.

***In the best interest of the league, rules are subject to change under the direction of the facility and league directors.
