Summit YMCA Youth Soccer Association Philosophy:
The Youth Soccer Association offers a non-competitive soccer league for youth.  We strive to teach basic skills as well as the concepts of teamwork, cooperation and sportsmanship. We seek to build healthy spirit, mind and body by exemplifying Christian principles and practices in our league rules and guidelines. We stress participation and fun so that all participants can have a positive experience.

Helpful Soccer Coaching Websites:   4 areas to stress while coaching:
             www.soccerhelp.com

This website introduces the concept of making soccer 'fun' and imaginative. Instead of stressing points and fundamentals create fun games where children use their imagination to develop those skills and fundamentals.
  1. Knowledge- know the game

2. Skill- fundamentals, fundamentals

3. Participation- everyone plays

4. Character- sportsmanship

Example of a typical practice:
Circle Time- gather players for practice.

Stretch- inform players why it is always good to stretch before playing. Introduce
                muscles and what they do.

Game 1- create a fun game that utilizes the skill you are teaching that day.

Skill- teach a basic skill kids can attain (see coaching guidelines).

Game 2- this game should reinforce the skill of the day and show players why the skill is
               used.
